Great opportunity for recent MSW graduate!* *Summary:* Oncology social work is the primary professional discipline that provides psychosocial services to patients, families and significant others facing the impact of a potential or actual diagnosis of cancer.
The scope of oncology social work includes clinical practice, education, advocacy, administration, policy, and research.
The Social Worker is responsible for performing social work assessments and interventions as needed for patients and their loved ones.
They are dedicated to patient and family centered care that values personal self-determination, skilled at managing multiple priorities at once, and engaging in creative, compassionate, and ethical problem-solving.
Oncology social workers embrace patient- and family-centered care at all levels of practice.
This approach includes: respect for patients' values, preferences and expressed needs; coordinated and integrated culturally competent care; timely, affirming and useful information, communication and education; individualized care; physical comfort, emotional support, involvement of family and friends, shared decision-making and collaboration with patients and families in the evaluation, planning and delivery of care.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *include the following.

* Fostering coping and adaptation to cancer and its effects in order to help cancer survivors maintain or improve quality of life * Mobilizing new or existing family, system, and community resources to provide social and emotional support to cancer survivors * Advocating with, or on behalf of, survivors, families, and caregivers to address their needs or for policies and programs that will benefit them * Advocacy for and protection of patients' dignity, confidentiality, rights, and access to care.
* Advocacy to remove barriers to quality care, to address gaps in service, to help survivors and families secure the protection of existing laws, and to work for any changes needed to policies, programs and legislation.
* Use of high-risk screening criteria to identify survivors and families in need of Social Work services.
* Completion of a psychosocial assessment to determine survivor and family’s strengths and needs relative to coping effectively with cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up cares * Use of a range of therapeutic and other interventions, including supportive counseling, group work, crisis intervention, and education to address issues in each phase of the illness.
* Provision of direct assistance to meet financial, transportation, lodging and other needs.
* Contribute to the multidisciplinary effort to provide quality medical psychosocial care to oncology survivors * Education and consultation to professionals and staff regarding the biopsychosocial, environmental, spiritual, and cultural factors affecting cancer care.
* Development of programs and resources to address the needs of cancer survivors.
* Collaboration with community agencies to remove barriers to cancer prevention, screening and early detection, and access to care.
* Clinical practice and research in accord with _NASW’s Code of Ethics_.
* Consultation with colleagues via telephone networking, conferences, or on listservs.
* Commitment to continuing professional education.
* Utilization of clinical documentation, statistical reporting, and evaluation to improve services, assure quality and develop programs.
*Additional duties:* * Maintains strictest confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/ regulations.
* Attends meetings and /or training as required.
* Serve on clinic and community committees, as appropriate.
*Supervisory Responsibilities:* This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
*Qualifications:* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be knowledgeable about chronic illness and the psychosocial implications for individuals and families.

* *Certificates and Licenses* * Maintain a minimum of one of the following active licenses in the state of Washington: * Independent Clinical Social Worker License (LICSW).
* Independent Clinical License Associate (LSWA-IC) through Washington State Department of Health.
(Must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
) * WA State Department of Health (DOH) registration/certification/licensure.
*Computer Skills* To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Can operate basic office equipment such as telephones, computers, fax, and copy machines.
*Language Ability* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
*Mathematical Skills* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
*Reasoning Ability* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
