POSITION SUMMARY: Enforces Puyallup Tribal tax and business laws.
Responsible for monitoring the administration and enforcement of licensing, record keeping, inspection, auditing, taxation of tribal businesses and other assigned regulatory duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive tax and licensing system.
2.
Responsible for monitoring and assessing tax amounts consistent with the Tribal Business Code.
3.
Responsible for creating digital and paper filing system for tracking applicants, background checks, licensees, compliance checks, and renewals.
4.
Review and evaluate the record keeping systems to ensures Tax and License Department maintains all business records in a confidential manner.
5.
Recommends amendments, changes and modifications of the licensing and taxation laws, ordinances and other regulations to facilitate in the analyzing, assessment and collection of taxes in the most effective, efficient and economical manner.
6.
Establish rapport with applicants, business owners, and Tribal Departments, to resolve any issues dealing with licensing or taxation.
7.
Interprets, analyzes, and evaluates business tax laws, ordinances and other regulations relating to the administration and enforcement of the licensing and taxation function.
8.
Serves as the liaison between employees, employers to ensure compliance with the Puyallup Tribal tax and business laws.

Under the general direction of the Director, the Compliance Officer will be responsible for preparation of educational materials as well as educating and assuring that licensees are fully-knowledgeable of Tribal tax and business laws.

Responsible for managing Tax and License Department budget.

Prepares correspondence, memorandums, and Department quarterly reports to be submitted to Tribal Council and Administration.
13.
Establish rapport with licensees, public, and law enforcement agencies.
14.
Coordinate and collaborate with the various Tribal Departments including the Tribal Cigarette Licensing Department to ensure all applicable Tribal, State, and Federal Laws and Regulations are being complied with by all licensees.
15.
Will also conduct investigations or assist in the prosecution of violators pertaining to violations and associated crimes.
16.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position supervises subordinate personnel working in the Tax and License Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians personnel policies and procedures, and all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A.

) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and four years related experience and/or training in business, accounting or general office management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and experience with computer software programs including Word for Windows, Excel required.
Language Skill Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver’s license.
Driver’s license must not contain any restrictions that would prevent the employee from driving a GSA vehicle.
Must pass a criminal background check.
