The Southwest Mountain States Regional Council of Carpenters (SWMSRCC) is currently seeking a Legal/Contracts Assistant that is interested in assisting in the organization’s document retention and compliance process.
The Legal Assistant will be responsible for accurately indexing Council documents; preparing, reviewing, editing, and formatting legal documents, letters, and memos; answering phones, emails, and other requests for information; maintaining department and/or attorney’s calendars; and carrying out other tasks related to Council legal issues.
The Legal Assistant will join the Contracts Department and report to the Contract Administrator.
The ideal candidate will have a passion and understanding of labor unions and the ability to work closely with our Executive team, our Carpenter business representatives, members of our Union, and our signatory Contractors and their representation.
Candidates should have experience in the document retention and indexing, proof-reading, and customer service.
The candidate must have an excellent level of attention to detail and the ability to review and understand legal documents.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
• Prepare, format, and edit documents.
• Draft correspondence.
• Prepare legal documents for signature.
• Prepare Excel spreadsheets for tracking and analysis.
• Index documents in the Microsoft Sharepoint.
• Prepare Powerpoint presentations.
• Monitor multiple email addresses and phone lines.
• Develop knowledge of local agreements to act as a resource to Council representatives.
• Attend meetings and take detailed notes.
• Work efficiently as a member of a team.
• Identify and drive process improvements.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to read and understand legal documents, identify key information, and index that information for future reference.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and professionally.
• Highly collaborative style; positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel & Powerpoint, highly proficient.
• Ability to stay focused and enjoy working alone or in groups.
• Manage multiple projects as assigned.
• Ability to prioritize.
• Patience with occasional shifts in priorities and goalposts.
• A willingness to wear many hats and carry out tasks that aren’t always typical of an Assistant.
• Supportive of the labor movement.
